Book loans
To visit our library and view books in the reading room, all you need is an identity card which must be shown when entering the the museum's administrative building.
If you register as a library reader, you will be able to take books home. To register you will need to show your identification, fill in the reader’s card and pay a registration fee (see Price List). You can find out which books are for reference only in the reading room and which can be taken home by consulting our online catalogue
Inter-library loans
When requested, the library can arrange for an item that it not in its collections to be loaned or copied from another library in the Czech Republic via the inter-library loan service.
The provision of an inter-library loan is governed by the rules of the inter-library loan service and is charged as follows:
- for individual users – fees charged by the lending library (mostly free)
- for libraries – postage, CZK 3 per A4 copy (free up to 10 pages)
Inter-library loan service for libraries
This service is used by libraries in the Czech Republic that are registered under Act 257/2001 Coll. (The Library Act) – collective users involved in the inter-library loan services with an allotted location code.
An order for an inter-library loan is accepted only via email library@jewishmuseum.cz
You may make a request for only one item (book, proceedings, article, essay).
When making a request, you must provide basic bibliographical information and the library's location code and full address. Without this information, your request will be returned without processing.
If the supplying library is not able to provide the requested item, it will inform the requesting library of this when returning the email request.
The requesting library is required to observe all the prescribed loan conditions (loan period, reference study, insurance of the consignment, etc.).
Copies and scans
Books and magazines/journals in the museum library's collections may be photocopied if this is permitted by the condition of original items and provided that this is in compliance with the legal regulations. The charges for photocopying and printing items from the databases are specified in the current pricelist. After signing the relevant form, photographs may be taken of most of the items for private use. Flash photography is not permitted.
For higher quality copies, you can request that the material be scanned or photographed in the museum's photography department. The charges for scanning and photographing items are specified in the current price List.
Literature searches
Research queries, information retrievals, and requests for information that require searching and excerpting specific documents
or other specialist sources are chargeable if they require more than 60 minutes to carry out.
Literature searches are provided in accordance with the details specified by the requester (topic, period, language, type
of document, etc.). The results comprise lists of records for the requested documents or parts thereof. Available sources
in the museum's library are used for literature searchers.
