Levite pitcher and basin
Vessels used for the ritual washing of the hands of members of the priestly family (Heb. kohanim) before the priest’s blessing. The washing of hands is undertaken by the Levites, who were the original Temple servants. The pitcher and basin do not differ in shape from ordinary washing utensils, although they are usually provided with an inscription. They are usually made of silver, less frequently copper and brass (mostly silver-plated) or tin.
