Sukkah (Heb.)
A temporary dwelling built during the holiday of Sukkot as a reminder of the wandering of the Israelites in the desert. The roof covering is required to be of plant material laid sparsely so that the stars can be seen through it. The inside of the sukkah is decorated with fruit, paper adornments and pictures. The minimum size of the sukkah is prescribed, although it is usually determined by the amount of people (usually one family) who will be staying there. Disassemblable and reusable structures that are decorated with paintings have been preserved only rarely.
