THE JEWISH MUSEUM IN PRAGUE CALLS ON THE PUBLIC TO HELP IN THE SEARCH FOR LOST BOOKS
17. 5. 2024 Overview news
The Jewish Museum in Prague has recently launched the Czech part of the Library of Lost Books project, which aims to find
lost books from the Library of the Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums, Berlin. The Jewish Museum and the Leo Baeck
Institutes in Jerusalem and London, together with other institutions from throughout the world, are seeking to virtually reconstruct
this library, which was destroyed by the Nazis during the Second World War. After Berlin, Prague is the second city to present
this project – to be followed by London and San Diego.
Provenance research conducted by the Jewish Museum in Prague has identified more than 4,000 books that were originally from
the Berlin library. These books will now be virtually reunited with others that are identified throughout the world. Far from
all the books have been located so far. Anyone can now participate in this project by becoming a detective in the search for
these long-lost books.
