About the building
The Neo-Romanesque Ceremonial Hall of the Prague Burial Society, which is located next to the Old Jewish Cemetery, is an important heritage building in the historic center of Prague, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992. It was built in 1908 to a design by the architect Jan Gerstl on the site of the burial society’s earlier building. It served its original purpose, i.e. to care for the deceased members of the Prague Jewish community, only until the beginning of the 1920s. In 1926, the burial society leased the building to the Jewish Museum, which still uses it today.
